Offbeat Bangkok: Dragons, Rooftops, Legendary Stew & Live Music Nights

🐉 Bangkok Day Trip – The Mysterious Pink Dragon Temple: Wat Sam Phran

On this day, I went on a little adventure to visit a place I had always wanted to see — the famous “Dragon Temple,” officially known as Wat Sam Phran. I’d seen photos online before, and that massive dragon wrapped around a tall pink tower just blew my mind. Seeing it in person? Even more surreal!

🚗 Getting There: Not Easy, But Totally Worth It

Wat Sam Phran isn’t right in the city center — it’s located over 40 km west of Bangkok, in Nakhon Pathom province. Honestly, the journey isn’t the easiest. You can’t just hop on the BTS and arrive. I had to take a few transfers: BTS, then a minivan, and finally a songthaew (shared truck-taxi).

But the moment I saw that giant dragon tower rising in the distance… all the transfers and bumpy roads were worth it.

🐉 Can You Actually Walk Inside the Dragon?

Yes — and that’s what makes it even cooler! The dragon isn’t just for decoration — it’s an actual tunnel you can walk through, winding all the way up to the top of the tower. It’s a bit dark inside, which adds to the mysterious vibe, and climbing through it feels like you’re on a real-life quest.

When you reach the top, you get an awesome view of the temple grounds, surrounding forests, and countryside. It’s peaceful and quiet — a totally different side of Thailand.

🛕 More Than Just Instagram-Worthy

Even though it looks like something out of a fantasy movie, Wat Sam Phran is a real Buddhist temple. There are areas inside that explain Buddhist teachings about karma, rebirth, and spiritual growth. One room shows the story behind the temple’s construction and what the dragon symbolizes — protection, power, and the journey toward enlightenment.

Before visiting, I recommend checking out a few YouTube videos or blogs about the temple. It’ll help you understand more and make your visit feel even more meaningful.

📌 Tips for Visiting:

  • Wear comfy shoes — there’s quite a bit of climbing.
  • Go on a weekday to avoid the crowds.
  • Dress respectfully — it’s a religious site.

This visit ended up being one of the most unique parts of my Bangkok trip. It’s so different from the usual golden temples — it’s magical, mysterious, and absolutely worth the trip if you’re looking for something special!

🌇 Bangkok Golden Hour: Mojjo Rooftop Sunset + A Quirky Stop at Cabbages & Condoms

Of course, a trip to Bangkok isn’t complete without watching the sunset from a rooftop bar!

That evening, I headed to Mojjo Rooftop Lounge Bar, located on the rooftop of the SKYVIEW Hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 24. It’s not as famous as places like Vertigo or Octave, but I loved it — the atmosphere was relaxed and the view was incredible!

🍹 Mojjo Vibes: South American Chill Meets Bangkok Skies

The bar has a cool Latin American vibe, with warm tones and a semi-open-air layout that’s perfect for sunset. I found a great seat and just watched as the sun slowly dipped behind the city skyline. The lights of Bangkok started twinkling, and the whole scene turned super romantic.

Plus, the photo ops here are perfect — tall buildings, glowing sky, and chilled drinks. What more could you want?

📸 After Sunset: Cabbages & Condoms for a Quick Photo Stop

After the sunset, I walked over to Cabbages & Condoms, a well-known restaurant that’s part of a campaign promoting safe sex and social causes in Thailand.

I didn’t eat there (already full from dinner at Terminal 21 — their food court is amazing and super budget-friendly), but I still popped in to take a look. The décor is super creative, with condom-themed decorations everywhere. There’s even a Christmas tree made entirely of condoms at the entrance!

It’s fun, a little quirky, and actually quite educational.

📝 Quick Wrap-Up:

  • Mojjo Rooftop is a great sunset spot that’s not too crowded.
  • Cabbages & Condoms is worth a quick visit for fun photos and an interesting message.
  • Terminal 21’s food court = cheap, delicious, and satisfying!

So that’s how I spent one relaxing evening in Bangkok — a little classy, a little quirky, and a lot of fun. If you’re planning a chill night in the city, this route is a great one to follow!

🐂 Bangkok Day 2 – Legendary Stew Pot + Live Music with a Friend 🎤🍛

My second day in Bangkok was all about comfort food and good vibes.

🍲 Afternoon Michelin Lunch – A Legendary Stew That’s Never Been Washed!?

In the afternoon, I visited a Michelin-recommended spot that totally blew my mind. This humble little eatery has been serving beef and mutton stew for decades, but here’s the twist — they’ve never washed their stew pot. Not once. 🤯

Sounds crazy? Maybe a little. But that pot has built up such deep, rich flavor over time that locals say “every spoonful carries history.” It’s kind of like a Thai version of a sourdough starter — but for stew!

The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, and the broth was insanely flavorful. You could taste generations of care in every bite. It was one of those food experiences that feels truly authentic, like a hidden culinary treasure passed down over the years.

I’ll definitely write a separate blog post about this place soon — it deserves its own spotlight!

🎶 Evening at 76 Garage – Live Music + Fried Rice = Vibes

In the evening, I made my way to a laid-back live music bar called 76 Garage. The place has such a cool atmosphere — a mix of casual street bar and underground music venue.

Tonight was extra special, because the performer was someone I know personally! So of course, I had to come out and show some support.

I grabbed a plate of simple but delicious Thai fried rice, found a comfy spot, and enjoyed the show. It felt really nice to end the day with some live music, good food, and familiar faces.

✈️ Tomorrow: Off to Hong Kong!

Can’t believe my Bangkok trip is already coming to an end. Tomorrow I’ll be flying off to my next destination — Hong Kong!

But I’m taking with me some unforgettable memories: a stew pot full of flavor, a rooftop sunset, and a live show that hit just the right note.
