My Birthday Trip

Church of Our Lord of the Navigators

Designed by the priest-architect Manuel Gonçalves, it is dedicated to the protector of fishermen and sailors. This church was built on the same site as the original one, which was inaugurated in 1928.

Raspadinha

“Raspadinha” is a Portuguese term that typically refers to a scratch card or scratch-off lottery ticket. These are instant-win lottery games where players scratch off a coating to reveal whether they have won a prize. Scratch cards are popular in many countries because they are easy to play and provide immediate results.

Umai Sushi Box in Povoa

For lovers of Japanese cuisine, this restaurant comes highly recommended. Take a break and enjoy perfectly cooked sushi and delectable fish. At Umai Sushi Box, you can also indulge in delicious Sangria.

Customers have praised the spectacular atmosphere of this establishment. It boasts an impressive average rating of 4.5 on Google.

Casino da Póvoa

In 1968, the concession of Casino da Póvoa to Sopete marked a significant milestone for the city, as it included the participation of gambling in the development of Póvoa de Varzim for the first time. In 1997, Sopete was acquired by Estoril Sol and, in 2001, it was renamed Varzim Sol.

Over the years, this development has significantly contributed to the municipality’s growth and urban renewal. It has also been characterized by a complete renovation of the casino building, support for various social solidarity institutions, and contributions to entertainment and the arts.

Old Shop in Portugal

I really enjoy visiting some old shops because in these shops, you can imagine the scenes of local people’s lives in the past.

Chapel of Our Lady of Guia

This hermitage likely existed as early as 953, as it is referenced in a 1059 inventory of assets belonging to the Monastery of Guimarães, though it was designated as the hermitage of S. Julião at that time. In addition to its religious function, the hermitage initially served as a support point for defending the bar.

Featuring an irregular composite plan, its interior boasts beautiful tiles from the 17th and 18th centuries and paneled coffered ceilings adorned with biblical scenes or figures of saints.

At the southern pinnacle of the chapel, there is a tall staircase leading to a platform where a stone cross was erected in 1940. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the city, the river mouth, and the sea.
