Today, our activity brought us to the Kinabalu Park for a forest hike, specifically on the Silau-silau Trail. “Silau-silau” in the local Malay language means scattered light or shining. This trail features a small river, and when the sunlight hits the river, it reflects the sun’s rays, creating a sparkling effect. Hence, the locals named this forest trail Silau-silau Trail.

The Silau-Silau trail is part of a network of connecting trails that collectively form a loop around Kinabalu Park. The region’s high humidity has fostered the flourishing of mosses, ferns, and orchids along the trail. Despite its considerable length, the trail is characterized by its predominantly flat terrain, making it an easy and non-challenging option for hikers. This trail provides hikers with the flexibility to determine the length of their journey, thanks to multiple entrances and exits. Its popularity among trekkers stems from being an ideal choice for long-distance training, catering to adventurous souls and those with a sedentary lifestyle who prefer a more level path without the typical ups and downs of a hill.

After completing the Silau-Silau Forest Trail, you can visit the indoor exhibition hall to learn more about Kinabalu Park.
