Mataking Diving Semporna

In Semporna, there are numerous diving spots, and today I chose to dive at Mataking. There are four main diving routes or island-hopping routes here, namely the Mabul Island route, Mataking route, Bohey Tulang route, and Timbun Mata route. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring my GoPro for this dive, so I didn’t capture the underwater world of the islands this time.

The cost for diving is 350 Malaysian Ringgit, and it needs to be booked one day in advance. After having breakfast in the morning, I walked to the diving center. The staff helped prepare the equipment, and then we boarded the boat to get ready for departure.

The itinerary begins with a visit to Timba-Timba, a long sandy beach with crystal-clear and stunningly beautiful water—perfect for photography. In Semporna, many islands prohibit the use of drones, but Timba-Timba is an exception, allowing drone flying.

After about 30 minutes of photography at Timba-Timba, the next stop is diving at Mataking. Mataking features a fantastic dive site with a wreck ship allowing you to get up close with the shipwreck. However, the depth of the water is quite deep, so proper ear pressure equalization is essential. The second dive spot is a coral-covered underwater wall where you can also encounter large sea turtles.
