MJ Nasi Payau Semporna

Most people haven’t tried deer meat before, and it’s not something you see on every street corner. But here in Semporna, I stumbled upon this little restaurant that serves up deer meat. Without the locals showing me the way, I probably would’ve missed it.

The restaurant is small and cozy, taking up only half of the space, and there’s no air conditioning, so it can get a bit warm inside. I was just curious about trying deer meat, so I didn’t worry too much about the setup.

We went for the sizzling deer meat and the Payau Lemak (fatty deer meat), which cost 18 Malaysian Ringgit per serving. But I have to say, the portions were tiny, just a few small pieces of meat on each plate. To top it off, we ordered two cups of coffee, rumored to give you a boost of energy.

All in all, the taste was alright, but you won’t get full on these portions.
